House Wrecking Videos

I just discovered that the video of our old farmhouse wrecking was never published.  Here it is!  This was in 2010.  Things are different now!

RED DOORS

I hated to think of naked looking doors all winter,
so I consulted my paint man to see if I could still paint.

He said it was okay as long as the temperature was at least 10 degrees,
but that I had to paint the doors gray before I could paint red.

So I watched the weather with a thermometer outside the door.
All seemed to go well until I opened the side door in the morning.
The gray paint had slid down the door.
It hadn't dried and then rained!

Front door

Side door
Not too much harm done except that the side door isn't finished yet (note the masking tape),
because I had to give some of the gray another coat.

It will look even better when the black shutters arrive and are installed!

THREE WISHES!

#1. TO SLEEP OVERNIGHT AT THE NEW HOUSE!

our old bed with a place to hang clothes on the posts!
We left Moncton at a few minutes after 7 AM to be at the farm to meet the man who was installing the air exchanger. We, once again, tied mattress and box spring to the top of the van. Guess who helped bring it up from the basement! :) We went through some very foggy patches on the way.
AND our neighbors arrived just when we were ready to carry the mattress and box spring into the house, so all I had to do was hold the door open.
GREAT TIMING, Dale and Tina!

This is dawn on Friday from the guest bedroom window.
We are in the guest bedroom with our old poster bed.

#2. TO TAKE A SHOWER AT THE FARM FOR THE 1st TIME EVER!
A SHOWER!
A HOT WATER SHOWER!
IMAGINE!

This is the medicine cabinet from my friend, Mary Brown's house.

#3. TO MAKE AND EAT BREAKFAST AT THE NEW HOUSE!
I'm afraid things were in a bit of a kerfuffle at the time,
but we did make scrambled eggs, English muffins, coffee and tea!

This is how the eating area looks now.
You will notice Lisi in her rightful place between the door and the window
(just like in the old house, except that the door and window were reversed.)

This is the old breadbox that Sara painted for me.
Even tho we like old stuff, somehow it looked a little tacky for a new house.
So I painted it...trying to copy Sara's work.

It looks cleaner and not too, too bad, eh Sara?
I didn't give you a real close-up look.

The desk we bought at an auction last summer for $25.
It is now in our new living room.
We found out that our neighbor, Dale, went to the school house where the desk used to live.
Small world!

The Keys...

to the house.
Of course, we know that the house does not belong to us
any more than the old house did,
or our van,
or our family.
We are just the caretakers of the house which God gave to us.
We trust that we will use it FOR HIS GLORY!
We are certainly thankful.
And now on to the furnishing and decorating.
(Can't paint for a year when it is inspected for any cracks, etc.
I don't mind.
I'm not 'zackly sure what I, or we, want to do! BUT I DO HAVE IDEAS!)

I came upon a very wonderful blog today!
It gives me more ideas!

Looks like somebody lives there!

The power is on! There is heat in the house & HOT WATER FROM THE TAP!!!
If you knew the old house, you know that is REALLY SOMETHING!!!
We moved a few things in and had our first real meal there...
if you call microwave Kraft dinner and microwave soup real.
It was fun anyway!

The power is in, but we are not!
This is the sum total of furnishings in the living room.

Here is the storage shed that Ben is building. Sherri is there with him inspecting it.
The shed is 16 X 20 feet, which is exactly how big the original farmhouse was.
(without the back porch, wood shed and bathroom, all of which were add-ons.)

We are excited that Ben and Sherri can occupy our house for a while. They have gone through some difficult health challenges and need some time to regroup.
God is good!
He is meeting their needs and ours!

A Peek at the Farmhouse

Here are some farm pics in no special order.
It is late and I am tired!

The maple tree was beautiful but, unfortunately, does not look like this now.

We did some planting around the house.
More to do yet this fall!

Not only did we dig, we had to use a pick to get through the rocks.
I am not totally in dispare. We had the same thing when we hacked out a back/side yard previously. Surprisingly things grew!

The old barn site
This is where Ben will park his storage trailer.
Hopefully Ben, Sherri and Andrew will be able to move in by the end of the week.
They will stay in our house for a time...
with a bedroom reserved for us!

New Pond House steps
Unloading our stuff will not be as precarious as the loading was.
The old steps were BAD!

The back of the house with all the grading done to the ground

Burning bush and hydrangea planted in front of the porch.

HIP HIP HURRAY! WE HAVE POWER!

I know that I have LOTS of up-dating to do, but I just got a call that the pole is up at the farm and we will have electricity shortly! That is VERY GOOD NEWS!!!

Porches

The front porch is finished except for the railings along the stairs.
That is because the power is not in yet and the boss was not there with his generator.
The Lord took us there at just the right time to have the porch the size we want.
Because of some miscommunication, it was not all the way to the right end of the house as we wanted. It was no problem to extend it when we let them know what we wanted.

First Lunch on the Porch

We have a "thing" about eating on the porch.
We used to eat on the front porch which was about the same size as this side porch.
I planned to set us up on the front porch, but although it was sunny, it was also windy and colder in the front. Notice the post sticking up under the light fixture. That is for my clothes line. We were there at the right time so that it was left that way! And the washer is right inside that door in the mud room.

We think both porches are wonderful!
The men are doing a wonderful job of finishing things off!
