What Is Your Vote Worth?

Check out THIS BLOG on the importance of voting on November 4th, and of voting the right way!
I don't know whose blog it is but he sure came up with some good information.

Remember America is only great when America is good!
and that would be good in God's eyes!

(Sorry about all the underlining. Blogger decided that we underline!??)

96 years since October 28, 1912!

Connie just reminded me that today would have been my dear mother's 96th birthday! But she has been in heaven for almost 4 years now. We talked about her today. Today perhaps she welcomed Mrs. Hazel Fraser who went to be with her Saviour sometime last night at the age of 100! Mrs. Fraser was a great friend of ours and also of my mom. What a joy it must be to lay down the cares of this life and step into eternity with our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ who gave His life that we might have ETERNAL LIFE! We would not for a minute wish them back here, even if they could somehow be young again. Well, they are now!

Freedom Quotes

Men must be governed by God or they will be ruled by tyrants.
William Penn

All that is necessary for evil to triumph
is for good men to do nothing.
Edmund Burke

It is impossible to enslave, mentally or socially,
a Bible-reading people. The principles of the Bible
are the groundwork of human freedom.
Horace Greeley

Bad men cannot make good citizens. It is impossible that a nation of infidels or idolaters should be a nation of free men. It is when a people forget God
that tyrants forge their chains.
Patrick Henry

A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the people discover they can vote themselves largess (gifts, money, favors, etc.) out of the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidate promising the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that democracy always collapses over a loose fiscal policy--to be followed by a dictatorship.
Lord Woodhouselee

And a truth from someone we do not admire:
The first thing necessary to control the people,
is to separate them from their heritage.
Karl Marx

Another View from the Window

It is not looking quite as frosty this morning but the temp was -4C when Paul left the house at 7:30 AM. At least he didn't have to scrape the van windows! I wanted to post a pic of the beautiful trees while they still had some leaves.
The leaves are going fast! It has been EXTRA BEAUTIFUL this year!

A SAD, SAD DAY!

We are all feeling as if a friend died!
Pillsbury Baptist Bible College is closing it's doors at the end of 2008.
This is where Paul and I met and courted!
We learned so much!
Our time at Pillsbury helped set the course for our lives.
We love the campus and Owatonna!
Even though we were not able to get there often in the last 26 years,
it was still there through good times and hard times for the school.
We will NEVER, NEVER forget our days there!
If it hadn't been for Pillsbury, where would we be now?
We thank God for using this school in our lives and for Dr. Clearwater's vision for the place.
There would have been no Pillsbury College without Doc.

BRRRR!!! Frosty mornings

This was the view out a front window a few days ago. (the window is fogged up too)
The temp has been below zero for several mornings.
I'm sorry that I didn't get the beautiful trees in the pic,
but I was concentrating on the frosty grass.
Also the lake is low. It was drained recently because of repairs that needed to be done.

FRENCHY'S SPECIAL

I remember that when our kids were little, we always stopped to get a treat after going to the doctor. The first stop would be the drug store to pick up medicine and a treat. The next stop would be the library for a BIG PILE of books. Then we would go home, crawl into bed together and start on those books. I really miss those times!

I don't really remember treats after the dentist, but I always seem to treat myself after the dentist by going to Frenchy's. Frenchy's is just down the street from the dentist, so it is easy to think this is a natural stop. I didn't find a thing at Frenchy's today after my dentist appointment, but I did find out that the Shediac Frenchy's had 25 to 100% off today! Since Paul tries to take Mondays off and since he likes to clear the area and since he had a counselling appointment while I was at the dentist, he was more than happy to buzz out to Shediac. (Shediac is a favorite Monday destination even though the library is closed on Mondays.) After making our selections, I picked a ball out of a box. Our ball said 40% off! One person had 100% off while we were there!

Sunday Afternoon Walk

Do you get that?
Children & Pheasants Crossing!
and, yes, it is pheasant, not peasants
This is across the lake from us

I have always admired this pink house.
Last Sunday I got to see the inside of the first floor. Beautiful!

HAPPY CANADIAN THANKSGIVING!

Two More New Brunswick Scenes!

I am busily posting photos so that Cheryl can see them on her Saturday morning blog review. I am not sure she still has the same routine, with her other Saturday morning activities. I do have to admit to eating yummy chicken at a Shediac take-out tonight. Sorry, Cheryl!
We missed the gorgeous sunset over the water, though. The camera was at home.
That is the second time we have missed a sailboat and a sunset at Shediac!

Fall Beauty

These beautiful scenes were taken just a short walk away from our house in the city.
Thank You, Lord, for the beauty You have created!
Thank You, Lord, for eyes with which to see this beauty!

Speaking of the Economy

This song has been running through my mind lately with all the fear people have about the economy. I feel very sorry for people who have no hope. God has always taken care of us and we have no reason to doubt His care for us in the future. We are both fortunate to have a heritage of godly parents who trusted God for His provision for them. The chorus of this song is especially appropriate.

GOD IS STILL ON THE THRONE
WORDS & MUSIC: Kittie Louise Suffield(1884-1972)

Have you started for glory and Heaven?
Have you left this old world far behind?
In your heart is the Comforter dwelling?
Can you say, “Praise the Lord, He is mine”?
Have the ones that once walked on the highway
Gone back, and you seem all a-lone?
Keep your eyes on the prize, for the home in the skies;
God is still on the throne.

CHORUS:
God is still on the throne,
And He will remember His own;
Tho’ trials may press us and burdens distress us,
He never will leave us a-lone;
God is still on the throne,
He never forsaketh His own;
His promise is true, He will not forget you,
God is still on the throne.

VERSE 2:
Burdened soul, is your heart growing weary
With the toil and the heat of the day?
Does it seem that your path is more thorny
As you journey along on life’s way?
Go away and in secret before Him
Tell your grief to the Savior alone;
He will lighten your care, for He still answers prayer;
God is still on the throne.

VERSE 3:
You may live in a tent or a cottage,
Unnoticed by those who pass by;
But a mansion for you He is building
In that beautiful city on high;
It will outshine the wealth and the splendor
Of the richest on earth we have known;
He’s the Architect true, and He’s building for you;
God is still on the throne.

VERSE 4:
He is coming again, is the promise
To disciples when He went away;
In like manner as He has gone from you,
You will see Him returning some day;
Does His tarrying cause you to wonder,
Does it seem He’s forgotten His own?
His promise is true, He is coming for you;
God is still on the throne.

We Really Do Love Our Farm House!

We are praying for a new house at the farm, but we do love the old one...

it's just not what it used to be! As much as I love to be there, I am very thankful that I don't have

to spend the winter there! But with the economy as it is, maybe burning wood isn't so bad!

A Walk in the Woods when I learn about clear cutting

We took a walk up the road from the farm and turned into this logging road
which we had never explored before.

Isn't this photo with shadow nice? Actually, I took it myself!

We came upon a large area which had been clear cut.
This was not visible from the main road at all.

My teacher told me that they always leave some trees to reseed,
so they pick the kinds that they want to grow next time.

These trees were interesting. Long ago someone had started to cut down a large tree which is dead now. Evidently it was held up by other large trees, so it didn't fall.

Paul looking the situation over.

This was one majestic birch tree. We don't know if the leaves already fell or if it is dead or going in that direction. Paul said that birches can't live if their roots are disturbed. This may have happened when the big equipment did it's work.

This is how the forest looks after clear cutting. Not only are the trees gone,
but the ground is churned up in rows.

You can see the trees in the background, so this area will be reforested.

New Toaster at the Farm!!??

Can you imagine a new toaster at the farm? I can't! We have been using the one we received as a wedding gift almost 43 years ago! Andy replaced it at home when he gave me one for Christmas more than 10 years ago. The "new" one in the city can toast wide slices or bagels. (I am a bagel lover!) Lately the "old" toaster has been protesting. We are always having to dig the pieces out. Could it be that all bread is fatter now and is that why we are all fatter?
The new farm toaster is also a wide slice even tho I have sworn off bagels until I am skinnier!

So the "old" toaster has been relegated to a top cupboard shelf...just in case. Just in case what? I doubt that the new one can match the record of our old GE! And 43 years from now we will be... We'll have been in heaven for quite some time and won't give one thought to "old" or "new" toasters! "...and so shall we ever be with the Lord!" I Thes. 4:17

Hooked Rug

While we were in PEI, we stopped at an antiques shop. I usually take the camera in just in case there might be some old hooked rugs to photograph. ( I do ask permission!) There were several nice rugs and this was my favorite! I take pics so that I can keep ideas for projects of my own. I usually have more projects in mind than I could ever do. However this particular pattern is one I definitely want to do some time. This one is done with strips of wool fabric. Right now I am hooking a seat cover (not pad) for our large dining room chair with arms. I am doing this one with wool yarn. I prefer hooking with strips but the yarn is quicker because there is no cutting involved. In this case, it will match the other chair pads which I already made.

*The rug pictured is at least 3 feet square.
The asking price was $525 or $575!
And, yes, people will pay that!
The shop owner told us she had sold three large, matching rugs for $12,000
(obviously not to us!)
