We took a walk up the road from the farm and turned into this logging road
which we had never explored before.
Isn't this photo with shadow nice? Actually, I took it myself! We came upon a large area which had been clear cut.
This was not visible from the main road at all.

My teacher told me that they always leave some trees to reseed,
so they pick the kinds that they want to grow next time.

These trees were interesting. Long ago someone had started to cut down a large tree which is dead now.
Evidently it was held up by other large trees, so it didn't fall.

Paul looking the situation over.

This was one majestic birch tree. We don't know if the leaves already fell or if it is dead or going in that direction. Paul said that birches can't live if their roots are disturbed. This may have happened when the big equipment did it's work.

This is how the forest looks after clear cutting. Not only are the trees gone,
but the ground is churned up in rows.

You can see the trees in the background, so this area will be reforested.
