FARM VACATION 2014

Look who was here...
Andy!

Farmer and son

We had to improvise in the guest bedroom.
The curtains do not block out the light
and Andy, coming from the west coast, needed a little darkness.

Here he is in the parsonage basement, going through some of his "stuff."
Notice the crazy eye,
part of his many collections.

After he left, we came upon his rock collection at the farm.
I wish we would have thought of it while he was here.

The only other time Andy was at the farm,
was in 1999 for Sara's wedding.
At that time we were pretty busy with other things,
so he didn't get to explore around the farm much.
He made up for it this time
and he thinks it is really nice.

VISITORS!

A week ago today we were in the midst of one BUSY week.
Just within the two previous weeks, we found out that Dwight & Cheryl would be able to attend
the 50th Anniversary of Fundamental Baptist Church in Saint John.
(I had been praying about this for weeks!)

The day before the anniversary, we met them and took them to the farm.
Here they are on the ferry.

I can't believe we didn't take any pics while they were at the farm.
We did, however, get this one of a coke bottle hanging on a tree when we took
the truck up into the woods.
Neat, eh?
Wonder who did that...
maybe our resident deer hunter.

On Sunday we started meetings with Gary Gillmore.
On Monday Cheryl & Dwight came and provided music through Wednesday night.

Relaxing

Here's Dwight trying to find out if their flights were on after Sandy blew through.
They made all their connections even though they flew through New York's LaGuardia.

Cheryl is sitting in my living room talking to Kari.

This is the packing process.
Since Cheryl's suitcase went to San Fransisco,
REALLY!
Cheryl had to do some shopping.
Consequently there were additional clothes and another suitcase going home.

They landed in Bangor on Thursday.
The suitcase caught up with them on Tuesday night
and they flew out on Thursday.
See the tag that says SFO? and RUSH?

Later on Thursday, after they left, the sun came out and the lake was beautiful!

Canal Park in Duluth

Duluth has always been a favorite place of our family.
When we were kids we would head there on a rainy day at the lake.
However more times than not, the sun would come out and it would be hot,
which is not usual for Duluth on the shores of cold Lake Superior.
Then we would moan because we were not in the lake.

We've always gone to see the lift bridge. It has always been an interesting place. The big lakers come through and the bridge lifts so that they can get into the harbor and unload. We have not been there for quite a few years and it sure has changed and developed. It is a fun place!

The museum has artifacts and stories about ship wrecks.
We didn't spend much time there this trip. It was a lovely day for being outside.

I suggested that we go to the top of the Radisson for lunch, but that was vetoed. The top revolves as you eat, so you get a lovely view of the city and shoreline. However Paul gets motion sick, even tho it moves very slowly. It ruins his lunch. We went to Amazing Grace and it was amazing. We would go back again...
if we ever go back again!

Around the Area

We were able to go to some of the special places near Dwight & Cheryl's.
This garden center was at the Amish market where they buy the delicious Wisconsin Colby cheese that we occasionally enjoy. We also visited a store where all the furniture was Amish made. Beautiful stuff!
D & C had never been there before. It takes a visit from your relatives sometimes...

I don't think they had ever been to this Antique shop before either.
The grounds and gardens were lovely.
A single man ran it plus a B&B.
It was for sale!

The Norske Nook

This was where we all went for Teddy's birthday.
Good food
Good time

but skip it for breakfast!
They have what they call "Norwegian Pancakes."
Even tho we are Norwegian - mostly -
we make Swedish pancakes.
I'll just say these were not like momma used to make,
or this momma either!

That's one nice thing about Wisconsin and Minnesota...
all the Scandahoovian places.
