Quick Trip to Vashon Island

On the ferry from Seattle to Vashon

The blackberries were ripe! Yum!

The old root
which has been played in by 4 generations of family.

Andy and a friend building a sand castle.
The friend is Andy's 2nd cousin's daughter,
I guess. Something like that anyway.

Good-bye Island!
It was a quick but GREAT visit!

Inside Andy's House

Dining area
(remember this is all in the process of renovation!)

Bathroom and laundry

Den with patio doors to back deck

Looking down the stairs from the upper landing

The stove will not stay there!
The stairs will have a railing someday!
Watch that first step off the upstairs landing!
We always had a night light for the night trips!

Light fixture over the dining area

Living room with sun room on the left
Andy plans to put french doors between. That will be really nice!

What an ingenious lamp next to the bed!
He made it!

Inside a Vegetarian's Kitchen

Andy has plans for renovating this room which include a "new"
(really a more vintage stove than the one pictured) stove and a different layout.

Projects at Andy's House

Here is Paul working in the yard...
cutting the lawn...
hauling brush.

This is the garden in front of the house before I attacked it.
Things grown BIG and FAST out there.

Talk about things growing BIG...
this is a SLUG! Yuck!

Here is the garden looking better than before.
I would have liked to plant something by the front door,
but didn't get to do that. I guess I will have to go back!

We got the oven working. Some dials were switched so things didn't work properly!

Here are the guys working on a laminated floor in the office.

Here is Andy's reaction when he finished.
We wish we could have accomplished more. Paul did clean up/straightening outside.
Andy was encouraged and motivated by what we were able to do. He has completed several projects since we left. The renovation project has been a bit overwhelming. Soon his office will be completed as well as his bedroom.

Visiting the Aunties

While we were at Andy's, we were able to visit Paul's Aunt Grace pictured here and my Aunt Midge. Aunt Grace will be 98 this month and here she is doing crossword puzzles!
She lives in the family home in which she was brought up. It is on an island near Seattle. She is the only one remaining in her family. She had two brothers and four sisters.
She still drives and her driver's license is good until she is 105! People ask how her driving is.
We don't really know. Paul drove to church!

Paul's sister, Ruthie, Aunt Grace and Paul

My Aunt Midge turned 99 at the beginning of August. She lives in a nursing home in the Vancouver, BC area. My cousin, Carol, lives very close but, unfortunately, she was away when we visited.

Aunt Midge is my mom's only sister. We were always very close to her and her family. She is very cheerful, upbeat and praising the Lord every time I talk to her. What a treat to visit our aunties!

Andy's Chickens

Percy the

Rooster
who crows
any old time
...2:00 AM
...3:30 AM
...5:10 AM
Andy sleeps
with ear plugs! I kind of liked his noise!

The Girls: Madge and Millie
I can't tell them apart, but Andy can.
They strut around the yard when Andy
can keep an eye on them. We chased them
down the road one day. Millie is the brave
one who leads them astray!

The chicken coop
It needs a studier roof to keep the other animals such as raccoons out.
