A Maine Fair and My Mattress Phobia

Paul had a hankering for a good old US fair.
This happens every year around his birthday - fair time!

So we headed on down to the Northern Maine Fair in Presque Isle.

We caught a band concert in Houlton.
That was fun. I took a video, but...
since I am having trouble putting videos on my blog and...
since the video came out sideways...

Civil War Monument in park

This fair's claim to fame, evidently, is the tractor pull.
Lots of noise..
lots of smoke and even some fire!
Unfortunately for some there was no horse pull! Boohoo!

Lots of farm machinery!

Even some antique machinery!
Antique cars too, but I didn't get pics.

A few flowers...
a few crafts, but absolutely no hooked rugs.

A Maine limo!
And about the mattress...
We have been looking for a queen sized mattress set. After all these years with our original, antique poster bed, we have decided that we could possibly graduate to a queen. We have shopped quite a bit around here but can't match Marden's prices, of course. So we bought a set there and tied it on the luggage rack, as you can see. We adjusted my rear view mirror so that I could keep an eye on it. It just so happens that years ago, when I was a little girl, we lost two bunk bed mattresses. My dad had ordered the mattresses for our bunk bed at our north woods cabin. They were shipped by rail and we went to pick them up. He put them into our trailer and we kids were supposed to keep an eye on them. However when we arrived at the cabin, or maybe sometime sooner, we discovered that the mattresses were missing. We drove right back looking for them along the roadside, but never found them. Someone must have enjoyed our new mattresses and we had to order more. SO that is why I have a fear of losing a mattress set on the way home.

I tried to upload a video the other day and it didn't work- I guess blogger is having trouble.

I love the story of the mattresses! I can even hear your voice telling us...and giggling...and Uncle Paul shaking his head and looking over his glasses at us...
So...you didn't say...were the mattresses still on top of the van when you got to your house?
Hugs and love...and giggles!

Kari, That pic was taken at the farm just before WE unloaded the mattress and box spring. They were okay!
