The Sussex Murals

Sussex is the town closest to THE FARM,
so it is where we shop when we are in the country. It is a nice little dairy town in a beautiful farming area. Last year Sussex held a competition among artists world wide for the privilege of painting murals all over town on building walls. I have six different murals shown here. I can think of at least four more and there are more to come.
This mural and the next one (parts shown in two pics) face
each other on each side of a city street.

The next two pics are the same mural on the tea room building. When we were eating at the tea room last year (A GOOD PLACE TO EAT!) the muralist was eating there too. As part of its contribution to the mural project, the tea room gave the artist lunch everyday. So we were able to talk with him and learn about his work. I believe that he was paid $8000 for this mural.

The work is astounding when you realize how difficult it would be to have everything in perspective. We enjoy the murals every time we pass through Sussex and are anxious to see what comes next!

The next two pics are from one of our favorites. The very sad thing about this mural is that it is on the side of a building separated from the next building by a driveway. It is really beautiful, but pretty much hidden except to those who are really looking!

I wish I would have know they were all there, we past by Sussex today and would have stopped in to see the art. Hopefully they are still there in a few years when we are back in the East! If not your pictures have been a blessing.
