SUGAR BUSH ACTIVITY

Last Friday night we had an overnight at the farm.
It was fun,
the kids were good
and we were able to sleep. :)

The next morning we went to a wonderful pancake breakfast
and then to the sugar woods for a tour.

We have gone many times before
to a different sugar camp where we saw and heard about
boiling down the syrup.

This time we were given a tour of the sugar woods
and had that part of the operation explained to us.

This is the young man who gave us very good explanations
of gathering the sap.  It is a family operation,
with three generations working together.

Maple candy on the snow

It takes a lot of wood to run the whole thing.
They do not use any electricity.
Everything is done the old way...
except that they do have some trees connected with plastic tubing
but that all runs by gravity.
Also they use a tractor to collect the buckets of sap.
